Abstract:

The circulation of a hot-water heating system is calculated. The system consists of an annular hot-water heating pipe installed in a gravitational field. The lower section of the pipe contains a heater which releases a known amount of heat per unit time per unit cross-section area. For circulation to occur, the heater must either be shifted somewhat to one side of the symmetry plane, or release more heat in one direction than in the other. The problem is treated by means of the 4 equations involved in the flow and heating of the liquid continuity equation, momentum equation, expansion equation, and the heat-transfer equation. Author
