Abstract:
Effort was made to study the transport processes that contribute to, or control, the oxidation of metals and alloys at high temperatures. Attention centered mainly on diffusion of ions in metals, alloys, oxides and sulfides and the dependence of these processes on defect concentrations and other aspects of the structure including lectron spin order. Preparations are being made to explore the relation between the diffusive phenomena and oxide plasticity, because these processes affect the adherence of scales. Some preliminary studies were made of methods of preparing large single crystals. Author
