Abstract:
A preliminary theoretical study is presented which is basic lly co cern with the estimation of e dept of an explosive source from a k ow edge of the radiated Rayleigh wave. DetailsARE GIV N OF THE DEPENDENCE OF THE AMPLITUDE SPECTRUM ON THE EXPLOSIVE YIELD, DEPTH OF BURIAL, HORI O AL RANGE, N T E ELASTIC PARMETERS OF THE MEDIU . It is ssued that the medium is a homogeneous a d isotropic half space which, as far as the Rayleig wave is concern d, po sesses a mechanical quality factor, or Q, which is independen of frequency. It is assumed that the xplosive s ot was effectively decoupled from the medium by locating it within a cavity of appropriate size. It is shown that changes in either shot depth or Q can produce an identical change in the Rayleigh wave spec rum. Hence a lack of knowledge of Q limits the accur cy ith which source epth may be estimted. Author
