THE MEASUREMENT OF AERODYNAMIC FORCES AND MOMENTS IN THE NOL 4-IN. HYPERSONIC SHOCK TUNNEL NO. 3
NAVAL ORDNANCE LAB WHITE OAK MD
Pagination or Media Count:
Two light-weight models of missiles are suspended by fine threads. Alongside, a light-weight sphere is suspended. A high-speed camera is focused on the models through a window and illumination is by a short-duration, high- intensity light source. When the shock tunnel is fired, the light source is actuated, the fine threads are snapped, and the models are photographed for 2-1 4 milliseconds as they move freely in the shock tunnel flow. From highspeed film, data of the horizontal, vertical, and angular motions of the models and the sphere as functions of time are obtained.
