Abstract:

Extensive tests were conducted to find a metal suitable as a container for molten LiBO2 at 1600 F. Test results indicated an increasing corrosion resistance with increasing Cr content of the alloys. Additional tests are scheduled with alloys containing a high percentage of Cr. Drop-calorimetric measurements on CaSi2 produced heat content data to 470 C. The thermal conductivity apparatus was modified. Measurements were made on molten NaF at 1020 C an approximate thermal conductivity value of 5.7 btuhr sq ft Fft was obtained. Construction of the furnace-calorimeter apparatus for measurement of heat release rates was completed except for the Ni calorimeter block.
