Abstract:

OBSERVATIONS HAVE LED TO THE HYPOTHESIS THAT UNDER SOME CONDITIONS, MAGNETIC FLUX INFLUENCES THE MOVEMENT OF DISLOCATIONS WITHIN THE GRAINS OF A FERROMAGNETIC MATERIAL. Based on X-ray diffraction extinction contrast, a technique was derived from the work on this project that makes it possible to make a direct observation of dislocations in nickel foil samples the dislocation movements can thereby be followed when the samples are subjected to magnetic flux. An unmistakable change in the imperfection structure was observed. It is recommended that this observation be followed by a more complete investigation of the nature of the change and the manner in which it is influenced by magnetic flux. Author
