Abstract:

The mathematics for POLYDOP is presented. The development starts with the derivation of the basic mathematical relations. The conditions necessary for the existence of a unique solution to these equations are discussed, and the solutions to a number of POLYDOP system equations are presented. The problems that appear when more than one vehicle is in the region of observation of the system at any given time are discussed. Situations are considered in which the same data might be taken even if the vehicle paths corresponding to this data are not the same. The problem of conversion of range information into Cartesian coordinate information is treated. The two most common measures of error propagation and a method for finding the points of intersection of two conics are included. Author
