Abstract:
DESCRIPTORS Economics, Supplies, Distribution, Mathematical analysis. As a part of their extensive contractual effort in the area of economic inventory policies EIP, Harbridge House of Boston, Massachusetts, studied inventory policies at the national or wholesale level. It was found that though the determination of operating levels is adequate, their approach to the determination of safety levels has several flaws making their recommended determination of safety levels inadequate. Mathematical arguments are given for this criticism. Since acceptable alternative approaches are available, it is suggested that these be used to determine national inventory policies.
