Abstract:
Routine quality-control acceptance-test results for Rene 41 s et were evaluated statistically to show the relative variance in properties that may be attributable to producer, sheet thickness, heat, sheet, and specimen the variance among individual specimens wit in a sheet often exceeds ha ttributable to all other factors combine . The distribution of properties revealed that, for the data examined, the assumption of normality is not valid for design purposes. This is particularly true at the low-strength end of the distribution, where the frequency of values is higher than for the normal distribution. Since this is the portion of the distribution from which design values are usually selected, a note of caution is given the designer. The results are based on Rene 41 sheet of a specified thickness range .013 to 0.071 in. and heat treatment solution heat treated at 1975 and ag d at 1400 F for 16 hr. he observations do not apply to Rene 41 in other forms, sizes, or heat treatments, or to other materials.
