Unique features of the B-58 Defense Systems Operator Trainer and design considerations and technical results with regard to the trainer are discussed. The trainer consists of trai e station which is an exact duplic of e third crew station of the B-58 aircraft an instructors station plus various cabinets containing air conditioning equipment, recording equipment, and computers. The device may be used for all phases of transitional and proficiency training for the third crew member of the B-58. Two major trainer systems are discussed. The target generation system provi es for the simultaneous presentation of three simulated airborne targets. The initial conditions under which these targets begin their passes, plus target maximum performance characteristics, are programmed. The system then computes range and azimuth data to simulate attacking vehicles flying a lead collision or pursuit course. The performance evaluation system provides information for a rapid and valid evaluation of the DSO students performance and operating techniques. The system includes a mission programmer, a print recorder and a tel system. A general discussion and description of the performance evaluator and the target generators re presented. Author
