HE WKB Wentz l, Kramers, Brillouin asymptotic solution is developed for t e field distribution and the transmission coefficient of inhomogeneous plane layer . These WKB formulas are consi erably more co venie t for numerical calculatio s an the exact solution here available or step-by-step numerical integr tio . They provide accurate results if the permittivity gradient is samll in comparison with the permittivity itself, and yield the e act solution for homog ous lay r.
