Abstract:

An arc melting furnace for the production of small samples of alloys and intermetallic compounds has been design d and built. It is used in phase diagram investigations involving reactive materials such as rare earth metals. The full asymptotic contribution at a critical point which is an interior extremum i calculated for any n. It is shown that this formula reduces to kno n resul s for certain special cases. The technique employed is to reduce t e n-dimensional integral to a onedim nsional integral and then to employ known results obtained by the method of stationary phase for o e-dimensional integrals to ob ain the final an wer.
