Abstract:

An analytical procedure was developed for determining Sn, but it has not been possible to determine Sn4 ion in the presence of Sn, or to quantitatively reduce Sn4 to Sn by means of the Jones reductor. At temperatures below the normal boiling point, no reduction of Sn4 to Sn is obtained with HCHO as the reduci g ag nt, in concentrated HCl solutions. At 200 C, a high pressure build-up occurs in the reaction tubes on breaking the tubes, the pressure rele e is so violent t at it is difficult to collect th sample. Although this may be invalidating th results, no reduction of Sn4 to Sn w observed. Author
