Abstract:
A design is presented for support and thrust bearings using simultaneously hydrodynamic and hydrostatic lifting forces. In this case the thrust bearing as does the ordinary hydrodynamic bearing, has thrust sections with wedge-shaped terraces. During rotation of the thrust disc a hydrodynamic lifting force resulting from the viscosity of the fluid is created on these terraces. In contrast to the hydrodynamic bearing, baffle collars are located along the perimeter of this bearing, and there are baffle apertures through which the fluid is fed under pressure. Author
