Abstract:

IN ORDER TO PROVIDE A SIMPLE METHOD OF EVALUATING THE INTERNAL RADIATION HAZARD, THE MPAs for ideal mixtures of fission products versus their ages were calculated and plotted. The resulting curves show that the MPAs change appreciably with time. Between one day and three years they decrease from 20,000 to 90 dpmcubic meter disintegration per minute for air, and from 1.2 x 10 to the 8th power to 1.2 x 10 to the 6th power dpmcubic meter for water. From the curves a first approximation of the MPAs, and therefore the hazard from fission product activity in air and water, can be obtained. In order to use the curves, one needs to know only the disintegration rate per unit volume and the age of the products. Author
