Abstract:

The toxicity of certain types of propellants can be a governing factor in determining exclusion radii for rocket static test and launch sites. A noncombusted or partially combusted spill of toxic propellant can constitute the most extensive and persistent hazard and can override other factors in determining exclusion radius. Increased reliability in determination of spill emission evaporation rate and increased use of micrometeorology are both needed before exclusion radii can be recommended on other than the most conservative basis.
