Abstract:

The electrochemistry of V2O5 in LiCl-KCl eutectic melt at 450 C was investigated. Results indicated several possible Li vanadates of limited solubility can exist in the melt. C URRENT-VOLTAGE CURVES OF V2O5 and NaVO3 melt-solutions were obtained with gold-plated Pt microelectrodes. Chronopotentiometry showed 2 reduction steps for V2O5 at about the same potentials as those obtained with voltammetry. C nstant current electrolysis of a V2O5 melt-solution gave an insoluble lithium vana ate bronze and an insoluble lithium vanadate. From potential measurement of a bronze-covered indicator electrode during the electrolysis of a V2O5 solution it was c ncluded that the V2O5 was reduced to an insoluble lithium vanadate bronze.
