Abstract:

An investigation was made to develop a ferroelectric material which possesses the following characteristics in the temperature range from -55 to 500 C P sub s greater than 4 mu Coulombsq cm, d sub 33 greater than 10 to the -10th power CoulombNewton, rho greater than 10 to the 7th power Omega-cm and epsilon less than 1500. The work consisted of 1 exploration of new ferroelectric compounds with high Curie temperatures, and 2 optimization of the piezoelectric properties of the more promising ferroelectric materials. Among the new ferroelectrics investigated, the layer-type bismuth compounds, with the general formula Bi2O22Me sub m-1 R sub m O sub 3m12- were revealed to constitute the largest family of high temperature ferroelectrics. The development work on the known ferroelectrics resulted in a considerable improvement in the piezoelectric properties of PbTiO3-base materials. Author
