Abstract:

The purpose of this project is to develop new or improved manufacturing methods for large scale production of ferroelectric and piezoelectric ceramic materials such as the titanates, zirconates, niobates and tantalates. A major requirement is high purity 99.95. A process for producing barium titanate by direct chemical precipitation from a barium hydroxide solution at high pH through the addition of tetraisopropyl titanate was carried through a series of rangefinding runs. Preliminary results indicate that material meeting the desired purity level may readily be produced. Uniformity, reproducibility and scale-up studies of the material as well as fabricating devices from the material are currently under study. Author
