Abstract:

Measurements of the dynamic modulus and damping of commercially pure Al 1100 and an Al alloy 2024-T4 were obtained over a frequency range of 20 to 3500 c at temperatures from 80 to 1100 F. For the small test oscillations the results were found to be amplitude independent. The frequency and temperature dependence of the results are discussed in relation to linear viscoelastic representations, metallurgical properties, and possible temperature-time correspondence. Pulse propagation tests were performed but their analysis is complicated by the amplitudes being sufficiently large to cause plastic waves at high temperatures. Author
