This report summarizes the experimental and theoretical work directed toward the preparation of a glazing material which would provide protection against flashblindness. The over-all objective of this program has been the preparation of a material with controllably variable transmission and reflection characteristics. Thin multilayer film composites containing an inorganic semiconductor, an ultraviolet absorber and a photochromic material have been shown to be only moderately successful as controllable optical filters. Data are presented on the transmission and reflection characteristics of such filters. Author-PL.
