Abstract:

A steering and control system for automatic terminal guidance in direct-ascent satellite rendezvous, using control of thrust magnitude and direction, is presented and analyzed. For a representative case, rendezvous with a station in a 400-naut-mi circular orbit, the range of initial velocity and displacement errors which the system is able to correct is determined.
