Abstract:

A description is presented of a high-gain directional antenna which is formed by stacking wire V antennas one above the other. When fed from a slotted-ring structure it is possible to excite 18 Vs from a single coaxial feed point. The slotted-ring structure allows the vs to be fed essentially in phase and at the same time reduces the back radiation. Pattern characteristics are shown for a model which can be scaled to give a gain of approximately 24 db above a dipole at 30 mc. A design is described in which the Vs are supported between 3 guyed towers. The antenna radiates horizontally polarized waves from an aperture of approximately 1 acre. Author
