Abstract:

Re earc is concerned with the effects of materials and fabrication techniques on the frequency stabilities of quartz crystal resonators. Of particular interest are resonators operated in the overtone modes. Vacuum equipment for fabrication of resonators of frequencies of 16, 48 and 80 mc wa modified to incorporate improved pumping and cold trapping in order to perform pressure processing steps. A 200-unit constant temperature oven was also improved by i corporation into it of coaxial lead and BNC terminations. The frequency measurement system, based on a single-ended bridge and counter method, was modified to incorporate automatic gain control of the crystal impedance meter oscillator and automatic nulling of the bridge. Twenty aluminum plated resonators were fabricated and measured. Initial aging measurements of these units indicated excellent stabilities. Author
