Abstract:

A Varian V-4200B NMR spectrometer was used to obtain broad band spectra of trimethoxyboroxine and N-trimethylborazole from which the B-1 nuclear electrical quadrupole interaction was measured. The Townes and Dailey method of analysis Mirowave Spectroscopy, McGraw-Hill Book Co., Inc., N. Y., 1955 is used to estimate the electron configuration of these moleules. The quadrupole coupling constant, eQqh, of B-11 for one excess p electron is taken as 5.39 mcsec. In both compounds, the quadrupole interaction split the central transition, m equals 12 to - 12. A relationship between the derivative maxima, eQqh and the asymmetry parameter, eta, is given by Silver and Bray J. Phys. Chem. 29984, 1958. Author
