Abstract:

Polyesters have been synthesized from fluorinated glycols and the corresponding hydrocarbon glycols. Some polyesters were prepared from fluorinated acids. Laminates prepared from these polyesters have been aged at elevated temperatures and their physical properties measured before and after aging. In general, the fluorinated glycol polyester laminates exhibit much better retention of physical properties than their hydrocarbon analogs. A description is given of synthetic work directed toward the synthesis of fluorine-containing compounds useful in polyester resin laminate preparation. The preparation of laminates from perfluoroglutarimidine and perfluoroadipamidine is described. These laminates have low initial strength, but show good retention of strength and low weight losses on high temperature aging.
