Abstract:
IRRADIATIONS WERE PERFORMED IN THE UNIFORM FLUXES OF TWO DIFFERENT EXPERIMENTAL FACILITIES. The beta-counting efficiencies of Convairs endwindow flow counters were determined for 22 types of Convair foils and three types of AerojetGeneral Nucleonics AGN foils. Gamma counter efficiencies were also determined for five types of Convair foils and five types of AGN foils. The absolute disintegration rate of each type foil was determined by one or more of the following methods beta-gamma coincidence counting, 4 pi beta counting, or by relation to a similar foil of known disintegration rate. Neutron fluxes were measured in the wet-pool pneumatic tube and at one location in the irradiation cell. The analytical neutron spectrum of the Ground Test Reactor GTR in the pneumatic tube was verified. An intercalibration with AGN was performed in two ways 1 by Convair determination of disintegration rates of AGN calibrated gold, cobalt, and sulfur foils, and 2 by an AGN determination of the fluxes from gold, cobalt, and sulfur foils.
