SOME MEASUREMENTS OF THE COEFFICIENT OF DIFFUSION IN THE UPPER ATMOSPHERE
GEOPHYSICS CORP OF AMERICA BOSTON MASS
Pagination or Media Count:
Sodium vapor has been used as a trace element in many upper atmospheric experiments. The vapor is ejected from a rocket during twilight conditions so that sunlight is incident upon the cloud at times when the sky background is as low as possible. Under these conditions, photography of the cloud motion and growth is possible. The necessary expansion models and experimental techniques used to relate the photographed cloud dimensions to the coefficient of diffusion are discussed, and data obtained from three experiments is presented.
