LIQUID-METAL COOLANTS IN NUCLEAR REACTORS
FOREIGN TECHNOLOGY DIV WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB OH
Pagination or Media Count:
INFORMATION based on foreign sources on the properties of liquid metals used as coolants in nuclear reactors is presented. The topics discussed are 1 heat transfer in the liquid phase or during boiling and condensation 2 the interaction of liquid metals with structural materials 3 methods for removing impurities from liquid metals and 4 the peculiarities of design and operation of systems with liquidmetal coolants. Requirements to be met by heattransfer media used in nuclear reactors and ways of raising the efficiency of atomic power plants employing liquid-metal coolants are also discussed. A brief survey is given of some domestic USSR research work on liquid metals.
