Abstract:

This analysis was conducted to derive an expression for the electric conductivity of a fully ionized gas by making use of the two-particle distribution function. Limitation of time makes it necessary to restrict to the simplest case, where the gas is subjected to a uniform time-independent electric field and magnetic fields are absent. The application of the two-particle distribution function is prompted by the hope that it will give a good evaluation of the aggregate effect of weak interactions, which in the case of Coulomb forces are more important than the effects of single collisions. The basic equation is the Boltzmann equation in which the usual expression for the effect of binary collisions is replaced by an integral depending upon the two-particle distribution function.
