Abstract:

INTEGRAL HEATER-CATHODE SYSTEMS WERE INCORPORATED IN PLANAR TRIODES FOR EVALUATION OF THE EMISSION AND CATHODE DESIGN. Thirty-five tubes were made and various faults were analyzed and where possible corrected. Etched nickel heaters were found to be unsuitable and tungsten heaters were used with good results. Current densities comparable with commercial tubes were obtained. Life test results were obtained, covering 500 hours at a stable current density of 50masq cm with 200 volts on the plate and appropriate grid voltages. Author
