Abstract:

An attempt has been made to use the criterion of least-squared error to determine analytically the shifts of the locations of the poles and residues of a transfer function in order to meet a time domain specification. A first approximation is obtained with the help of existing methods, and successive steps are carried out using the first two terms of the Taylor Series expansion of the first approximation. In the process, orthogonal vector functions are formed by linear combinations of the partial derivative functions. The use of FORTRAN for programming the problem for the IBM 650 data processing machine is illustrated. Author
