Abstract:

Quantitative relationships are presented between the thermal features of solids such as the melting point, thermal coefficient of linear expansion, and heat-conductivity coefficient, and the solidity possibilities of solids under conditions of increased temperature, namely 1 the relation between the modulus of normal elasticity and the thermal coefficient of linear expansion 2 the relation between the Debye characteristic temperature of the solid and the modulus of its normal elasticity 3 the Debye characteristic temperature and the melting point of a substance 4 the relation between the melting point and coefficients of linear expansion of cubic and hexagonal metals, metallic compounds, and alkali-haloid salts and 5 the relation between the characteristic temperature and the melting point for metals and chemical compounds with a metallic type of connection.
