Abstract:

The purpose of the research was to provide information requirements which could be used to guide design of a display console for the commander of a next-generation submarine. The practical need for improved displays appropriate for command control of an advanced system posedA RESEARCH PROBLEM OF BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN THE PROJECTED CAPABILITIES OF SUBMARINE EQUIPMENT AND REQUIREMENTS FOR INFORMATION DISPLAYS. This problem was treated as two parts first, a general rationale or logic of research steps was developed to bridge the gap, and second, the logic was reduced to a set of research procedures. These two research problems are the topics discussed in this paper the logic of the research approach, and the sequence of procedures used to develop a foundation of requirements to support display recommendations.
