Abstract:

Ideal monitoring of pulmonary function allows constant surveillance with a minimum of equipment of a pilot or astronaut. A velocity-volume V-V loop synthesized from a telemetered pneumotachogram permits the assessment of the following measurements vital capacity, expiratory reserve volume, inspiratory reserve volume, inspiratory capacity, tidal volume, and air trapping, timed inspiratory and expiratory vital capacities, inspiratory and expiratory reserve velocities, maximum peak inspiratory and expiratory velocities, breath accelerations, and a reliable maximun breathing capacity prediction at any breathing frequency.
