Detailed information on the work performed on an L-band voltage-tunable amplifier is presented. The primary design goals for this amplifier were 1 voltage tunability over a frequency range in excess of 10 percent, and 2 a noise figure of less than 2 db. An experimental model was designed and evaluated. This model had a gain of 15 db and an average amplification bandwidth of about 25 mc that could be tuned from 1150 to 1350 mc by varying only the pump frequency. By varying both the pump frequency and the DC bias applied to the varactor diode, the amplifier pass band could be tuned from 1100 to 1500 mc with a constant gain of 14 db. Author
