Abstract:

Information was collected not only on aldosterone secretion rates in man but also on the output of the main metabolite in the urine. The normal range for secretion rate and metabolite excretion have been established. A series of cases of hypertensives has been studied, and also a series of congestive cardiac failure subjects resistant to normal therapy. Cases of hypertension have been encountered which showed high aldosterone secretion and attempts are being made to determine the factors deciding whether aldosterone secretion is raised in hypertension or not. Two cases of hyperaldosteronism have been studied and both had the expected high aldosterone secretions. The effect of impaired renal function on the estimation of aldosterone secretion rates is also being studied. The diagnostic value ot determination of aldosterone secretion rates is being gradually defined. Author
