Abstract:
The following recommendations were made 1 retain existing MIL-HDBK-5 rivet criteria for piloted aircraft propose new criteria for missiles and pilotless aircraft 2 initiate a design standard defining details of test specimens, yield criteria determination, rivet patterns edge distances, sheet thickness, rates of loading, heating rates, etc 3 institute a BuWeps bulletin for release of recommended rivet-joint allowables on new rivets and sheet materials 4 undertake a test program for development of room and short-time elevated temperature load allowable for A 286 solid rivets 5 propose criteria for Al alloy rivets in Al alloy sheet materials 6 correlate available rivet test information for recommended load allowables 7 outline an ultra-short-time elevated temperature research and testing program and 8 incidental to items 4 and 7 obtain information on creep andor creep-rupture and fatigue strength of rivet joints at elevated temperatures.
