PRELIMINARY REPORT ON THE FIN-WING INTERACTION PROBLEM

An idealization of the shock wave boundary layer interaction problem which arises when a fin is installed on a wing or planar surface is described. It is shown that a reasonable first step in the analysis of this interaction is the two-dimensional interaction of an oblique shock wave on a laminar boundary layer. In view of recent developments in boundary layer theory an analysis of this problem seems possible. Accordingly a flow model and method of analysis are outlined and the next steps in the investigation described.
