Abstract:
The basic equation for the behavior of an atmospheric temperature-sensing element is formulated and solved. The theory is then applied specifically to an aluminum-coated bead thermistor 0.01 inch in diameter, which is being used with a rocket sounding system to measure temperature in the upper atmosphere. The steady-state errors due to radiation and aerodynamic heatingAND THE TIME CONSTANT ARE GIVEN FOR THIS ELEMENT IN THE ALTITUDE REGION OF 30 TO 58.1 KILOMETERS. Author
