Abstract:

The use of rotary wing aircraft in modern ASW opertion has created the need for a lightweight, reliable electronic system, capable of providing coliion avoidance and station keeping information. This inforation is reqired to allow effective operation at night and in all weather conditions, as wel as to enhance afety in daylight operation. Present investigation concerns air fame compatibility, whch includes a stdy of a combination rf and hyraulic rotary joint, rerouting of hydraulc and electric lines, relocation of components and strucures within the roary wind drive shaft, mounting of the antenna atop the shaft, and general system integration. Additional studies concerning the form of the electronics were lso de. Careful consideration indicates that a combined raarbeacon system is most feasible, since the capabiliies and advantages of both will provide maximum informaion for safe opeion of the ASW raft.
