Abstract:

The design, construction, installation, testing, and use of various flow systems in a solar furnace are described. These flow systems allow the use of the solar furnace as a light source for photochemical reactions. They achieve two objectives 1 the separation of the photoproducts before appreciable back reaction occurs, and 2 adequate temperature control withoutANY COOLING. The flow systems were used to study the photolysis of nitrosyl chloride in carbon tetrachloride solution to form nitric oxide and chlorine. The quantum yield of this reaction in the solar furnace is 0.22. Author
