Abstract:

The report summarizes the efforts of a development and evaluation program on inorganic glassy binders for the fabrication of wound C cores suitable for high temperature service. Binders for silicon, aluminum and cobalt iron magnetic alloys were developed and facilities for their application were constructed. Experimental cores were fabricated by hot winding magnetic strips, the glassy binder being applied by a previous operation in films as thin as 0.2 mil on each surface of the strip. The cores were evaluated by heat aging samples at 350 and 600 C for 2500 hours. Magnetic tests made before, during, and after heat aging demonstrated performance of the cores. Author
