Abstract:

A concrete containing an organic binder in the form of a resin obtained by the polymerization of the FA furfurol-acetane monomer is discussed. This plastic concrete is superior to silicate-bound concretes in many respects. Strength indices, for example, are 2-2.5 times higher, and the plastic concrete is waterproof and chemically resistant to solvents, acids, and alkalies. Adhesion to reinforcing iron and dry concrete is excellent. Aging tests under natural and artificial conditions indicated no deterioration. The relatively high cost of the concrete prevents its wide use in construction. The resin exhibits dielectric properties which may be of interest in electrical engineering. Its working properties are not impaired by temperatures from 250 to -60 C. Wood impregnated with the resin is rendered moistureproof, fireproof, and antifouling. Author
