Preparation and evaluation of potential chemical warfare agents are described. Special physiological and toxicological studies including the assessment of particulates as chemical warfare agents, apparatus and techniques utilized in toxicological studies, and physiological mechanisms concerned in the production of casualties by exposure to heat are discussed. Phsyiological mechanisms concerned in the production of casualties by exposure to heat are discussed. Physiological mechanisms of action of the sulfur and nitrogen mustards and protection against chemical warfare agents are considered. The investigations have demonstrated that the sulfur and nitrogen mustards are potent and relatively nonspecific alkylating agents. Detection and analysis of chemical warfare agents and other miscellaneous investigations are included.
