On the basis of land forms and their associated surface characteristics, the classification recognizesthe following types 1 Playas, of which there are five subtypes 2 Desert Flats 3 Bedrock Fields, in three categories 4 Regions Bordering Through-flowing Streams 3 Alluvial Fans and Badlands 6 Dunes 7 Dry Washes 8 Badlands 9 Volcanic Cones and Fields and 10Desert Mountains.
