NOTE ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF A TRAILING-EDGE FLAP AS A STALL DETECTOR
COLLEGE OF AERONAUTICS CRANFIELD (UNITED KINGDOM)
Pagination or Media Count:
A trailing-edge flap protruding slightly outside the wing profile was developed as a stall detector. Successful flight trials were made using the flap on Anson and Provost aircraft. An adequate stall warning was given by the device for all conditions of power and landing flaps. Operation prior to stalls from steep turns was successful. Simple adjustments permitted operation of the unit at any desired warning speed to an accuracy of 1 mph. In addition, the unit provided a 2-stage warning a preliminary warning preceded the final warning by about 3 mph.
