Studies were made of the oxidation resistance of certain Mo alloys and of metallic-coated Mo. Data giving a comparison of the oxidation characteristics of high purity Mo with those of Mo-Co, Mo-Ni, and Mo-Cd alloys are included as well as results on Mo coated with Mg, Pb, and Ba. Nickel molybdate at high temperatures formed a highly protective coating on Mo which was broken by spalling on cooling. Tests made by quenching nickel molybdate into ice water indicated that spalling is probably not due to a phase change of a principal fraction of the material but is probably largely a mechanical phenomenon.
