Research was directed toward developing a spherical calorimeter a spherical, isothermal shield furnace and a vacuum system. These and the controls for the internal and shield heaters are described in detail. Pt and Pt- 13 Rh thermels were used in temperature measurements. The basic equations of the calorimeter theory are presented. The calorimeter and shield temperatures were obtained for different values of the heat input under steady-state conditions. Cooling curve data obtained consisted of values of the calorimeter and shield temperature as a function of time when the system was allowed to cool with zero heat input to the calorimeter.
