Abstract:

A hot-hard Cr-Fe alloy deposited on the bore surface of an erosion-gage weapon insert showed no sign of deterioration after 50 rounds of test firing. The rate of plating was about 0.001 in.hr for a cathode current density of 100 ampsq ft. Cracking, which appeared in plates applied at 150 ampsq ft or more, indicated a shift from tensile to compressive stress in the plate. See also AD-11210
